Artist Royalty Program

Artist Royalty Program

For the sustainability of art and artists.

We are committed to supporting artists beyond the first sale. Through our Artist Royalty Program, eligible artists will receive a royalty payment when their work is resold through our platform.

About Artist Royalty

The Artist Royalty is a program designed to give living artists — or their rightful heirs — a percentage of the resale price when their work is sold again through Art Exchanger. This reflects our belief in long-term support for artists and fair participation in the growing value of their creations.

Why It Matters

We believe the market should reward not just collectors — but also the creators. This program brings Thailand in line with global art market standards while building trust and transparency between artists, collectors, and platforms.

How It Works

  • The royalty is paid out when an artwork is resold at or above THB 50,000.
  • The royalty is calculated based on the final hammer price (excluding buyer’s premium).
  • Art Exchanger deducts this amount from the seller’s proceeds and pays it directly to the registered artist or heir.

Example Calculation

If an artwork is sold at auction for THB 1,600,000, the artist will receive a royalty as follows:

  • 3.20% on the first THB 1,000,000, which equals THB 32,000
  • 2.50% on the remaining THB 600,000, which equals THB 15,000

Total royalty payable to the artist: THB 47,000

How to Join

To receive resale royalties, artists (or heirs) must register with Art Exchanger. Registration is simple and free. You will be required to provide proof of identity and authorship.

Question?

Living artists who have sold work through Art Exchanger, or the legal heirs of deceased artists, are eligible to receive royalties upon resale.

The program applies to original works of art — including paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, photographs, and mixed media — that have previously been sold through Art Exchanger.

Yes. To ensure accurate and timely payments, you must register with Art Exchanger using our online form. You’ll be asked to submit identification and proof of authorship or inheritance rights.

Artists of any nationality are eligible as long as the work was sold through Art Exchanger. Royalties will be transferred to your bank account in accordance with local tax regulations.

The royalty amount is deducted from the seller’s net proceeds — buyers are not charged additional fees for this program.

Payments are issued within 30 days after the resale transaction is completed and verified. You’ll receive a notification and receipt by email.

No. Registration is free, and Art Exchanger does not deduct any commission from the royalty payment.

Artists may opt out of receiving royalties if they choose, but they must do so in writing. However, this may affect future eligibility.

While resale royalties are not (yet) legally mandated in Thailand, Art Exchanger has voluntarily adopted this program in line with international standards to promote ethical collecting practices.
