Thaweesak Srithongdee, widely known by his artist name “Lolay”, is one of Thailand’s foremost contemporary artists whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, installation, and public art. He is best recognized for his signature line-based drawings and surreal characters that humorously and poignantly portray the human psyche and emotional states.
Born in 1970 in Udon Thani, Lolay graduated from the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts at Silpakorn University. His imaginative figures seemingly cartoonish at first glance, reveal complex reflections on life, society, and identity. By combining personal experiences, emotional introspection, and social commentary, Lolay creates work that is visually accessible yet conceptually layered.
He avoids attachment to any single medium or technique, often exploring new formats and materials through constant experimentation. His works have been featured in both local and international exhibitions, including major art institutions in Japan and Europe, as well as prominent art events such as the Singapore Biennale and the Busan Biennale.
With a unique artistic voice and the ability to connect with diverse audiences, Lolay continues to be a key figure shaping the discourse of contemporary Thai art.
